Sophisticated Circuits' Products for Other Platforms

We are often asked about the availability of our products for Windows, Unix, and Linux. Although Sophisticated Circuits has historically been a Macintosh-focused company, the good news is that we are actively working to bring our most popular products to all major platforms. Platform independent products are the future of Sophisticated Circuits and a core element of our business strategy.

The key to this strategy is the move from proprietary Macintosh ADB (Apple Desktop Bus) bus technology to the industry standard USB interface (Universal Serial Bus). We have already released two USB hardware devices and are considering others for development.

Research and Development

Although we have now released USB hardware devices, there are still several steps required to provide support for another platform. First, it is necessary that the platform support USB. Currently these platforms include Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows 2000, Windows XP and the latest Linux beta kernel. The good news is that USB is quickly becoming ubiquitous.

And fortunately, the development cycle for software can be much shorter than for hardware. We have released Kick-off! software for Windows and Linux platforms.

We take pride in the quality of our work, and we are very cautious as we develop our products on a new platform. This means longer testing cycles, and it means we are especially careful not to over promise delivery dates or feature sets.

You Can Help!

If your company has an immediate need for one of our USB products on a currently unsupported platform please contact us. We are particularly interested in working with customers that can give us quality feedback about the specific problems and requirements of that platform. Working with us will give your company early access to drivers and give you a voice in the feature set. We are also seeking companies that can function as reference installations.

The final issue that we want all of our customers to understand is that we will not release products that we are not ready to support. This means that we need to make certain that our support personnel are up to speed on the issues related to each newly supported platform. Working our way up each learning curve is yet another reason for making certain that our testing periods are adequate. Again, you can help by participating in our evaluation process.
