The Kick-off! background software

Kick-off! is based on our PowerKey power control system. In order to function, Kick-off! relies on the background software components and helper files used by the PowerKey software. These can be found in the following locations, depending on which version of Mac OS you are using.

Mac OS 10.1 or later

The PowerKey folder in the /Library/StartupItems folder contains the background software that communicates with the Kick-off! unit and runs scheduled events.

Tip: To disable the Kick-off! software, remove this folder and restart your computer.

The PowerKey Folder in the /Library/Preferences folder contains unit and event settings. All users on the computer will share these settings.

The com.sophisticated.PKEd.plist document in the (user's home)/Library/Preferences folder contains window and event list settings for the Kick-off! application. Each user on the computer will get his own window settings.

Mac OS 8.6 and 9.x

The PowerKey Extension in the system's Extensions folder contains the background software that communicates with the Kick-off! unit and monitors application timers.

Tip: To disable the Kick-off! software, remove this file or disable it with the Extensions Manager control panel and restart your computer.

The Kick-off! USB driver in the system's Extensions folder contains low-level code that lets your computer talk to the Kick-off! unit.
The Kick-off! Folder is installed in any location you choose (by default it is placed at the main level of your hard disk). It contains the Kick-off! Help system and optional extra items.

Finally, a PowerKey Folder is placed in the system's Preferences folder. This contains unit and event settings.
